2/06/2020 C: Would be great to be able to highlight all parcels by Owner Name. Looking to find all records associated with an owner and have the map highlight the parcels.A: When designing the application the ability to search for parcels by owner's name was seen as a potential privacy infringement and we were asked to leave it out. Replied/Under Consideration
8/14/2019 Q: The Quick Search drop down bar does not show up using either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. Kind of a useless map A: We cannot replicate the issue you are reporting. The Search tools display correctly when tested in both Chrome and IE. Unfortunately without any further information, we cannot help with troubleshooting further. In the future please include more information or an email address so we can follow up. Kind of a useless feedback comment. Replied
2/26/2019 Q: I am looking for some land and need to find the land’s utility information. I can’t find the water and sewer line in your gismap system. Could you tell me where I could find out them ? A: Unfortunately the Prince William County Government does not have permission to display the water and/or sewer line information to the public. That data is owned by the entities that service the citizens within the County; either the Prince William County Service Authority or the Virginia American Water Corporation. You will have to contact them regarding utility locations. Two layers within County Mapper will help determine which one to contact. The first is the VA American Water Service Area (found in the Service Areas tab) which shows the extent of their water/sewerage system. If the property you are interested falls within this layer’s boundary, you should contact them for more information (1-800-452-6863). The rest of the County is serviced by the Service Authority (703-335-7950). The other layer is the Rural Area Boundary (found in the Land Development tab) which shows the area of the County with utility connection restrictions as set in place by the Planning Commission’s Comprehensive Plan. 11/29/2018 Q: Is it possible to add to County Mapper the ability to search/filter by Zoning Districts/classification in the application? A: Yes. We have added Zoning Districts to the Search Layers tool enabling user to search by zoning classification. Implemented
9/05/2018 Q: While checking the soils data for my site, I found that the data on the county mapper doesn’t match the USDA soil survey website. I see that the 42B soil doesn’t exist on the soil survey website. Please advise.A: UPDATE: The soils data have been updated and should align with USDA soil survey website.
A: The data you see on the USDA NRCS Web Soil Survey is the correct information to use in this case. Prince William County is working to update our soils data based on the USDA information but a conflict with the County’s soil scientist contractor has held up the process. This has been ongoing for over a year but should be resolved within the next few weeks and updated in the County Mapper. We apologize for the confusion this has caused.

7/18/2018 Q: When I first click “Enable Mouse Navigation” in the “Map Tools” drop down, mouse navigation works fine and I am able to zoom in and out using the scroll wheel on my mouse. As soon as I click “Pan”, “Search” or any of the other items on the tool bar, my mouse navigation is disabled again. Is there any way to keep the mouse continuously enabled?A: The application is designed to have only one “active” tool in order to correctly interpret your clicks on the map. Therefore the tools that require interaction with the map (Pan, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Identify Tools, Measure Tools, Draw Tools, and Mouse Navigation) are mutually exclusive. As soon as you “activate” one of those tools by selecting it from the toolbar, all the other tools become inactive. Other one-click tools and dialogs that do not require map clicks (Full Extent, Previous Extent, Next Extent, Manage Layers, Print, Search, Book Marks, the other tools in the Map Tools dropdown menu, as well as any other tools available from the Results panel) merrily perform their tasks without relying on an active status. In short, unfortunately, the only way to keep the mouse navigation continuously enabled is to not activate any of the other tools that require this exclusive control. Answered
12/12/2017 C: It will be nice if the customers are given options to choose paper size and orientation of the image before actually printing a PDF file.R: Thank you for your comment. Currently the page orientation (portrait/landscape) is dependent upon the height to width ratio of the map in your browser window. However, inclusion of the Pictometry Imagery panel will force landscape due to the side by side layout. The print layout for the PDF targets the letter pagesize as it is the most widely used page size. This web application was not considered a practical solution for larger plotter page sizes due to image quality/resolution and output file size. Adding additional pagesize options will be added to the list of potential future enhancements. Under Consideration
7/26/2016 Q: Hello, I’m interested in downloading contour data for an area near Jefferson Park. Is it available in a shapefile?A: UPDATE The topographic contours data (and many more layers) are available for download free of charge from our GIS Data Portal
A: Topographic contours are available as files covering a 10,000 ft. x 10,000 ft. area based on the County’s 10K tiling grid. We do offer them in shapefile format for a small fee through our digital data ordering process. Please follow the link and see all the data options we have available.

7/21/2016 Q: What happened to the ability to create a pdf?A: Printing as a .pdf is now the only way to print from the website. Clicking the "Print" button from within the Print dialog should either download or prompt you to download the .pdf file depending upon your browser and its settings. If this is not happening and you have a pop-up blocker, you may also need to add an exception to the pop-up blocker for [email protected] to allow the print function to work. Answered
7/06/2016 Q: This new mapping system is horrible. What bonehead changed it?A: We're sorry you don't like the changes made, however, there was a five month period for public use and comment on this version before the change-over. During that time we incorporated multiple user ideas into the new design. Since no details were provided with your feedback, we have no way of knowing how to make the site better for you. In future feedback please include this useful information. That way we can work together to improve this application for all.Replied
7/05/2016 Q: where is the link for tax records???A: The link to the Real Estate Assessment tax information is still displayed on the Results tab when a Parcel feature is located by a search or identified. Click the 'Tax Info' button displayed beneath the returned Parcel details to open a new window linking to the Real Estate Assessment data. Searching by Premise address will still not return parcel information and therefor no link to tax information.Answered
7/01/2016 Note: Beta v1.0 was moved into production today!Announced
6/10/2016 Q: Your improved website looks good and the new SEARCH function for a parcel is very important and Im glad to see it added. Instead of having to manually enter a GPIN or Address, can you have a "click-on-map" function to search a parcel? The SEARCH function should link you to property info like parcel size, zoning, taxes, assessments, improvements, sales, etc.
A: Part of what we enjoy about interactive mapping applications is the ability to pan around "exploring" the map to discover information; or as you put it, "click-on-map" searching. To help with this type of searching, we have the "Identify" tool. This tool allows you to retrieve information from up to 10 layers in the map (not just parcels) based on where you click within the map. I highly recommend reading the documentation under the Help tab; specifically, the Map Panel > Map Tools > Identify Tools section. With this new version the Search and Identify functions return the same information about the map features. With parcels, one of the attributes returned, in both the new and old versions, is Acreage. This is the size of the parcel in acres. Also in both versions when a parcel has been searched, there will be a 'Tax Info' button presented with the search results. Clicking this button will link you to the County's real estate assessment office information for that parcel where you have access to tax, assessment, improvement and sales information. To get zoning information, I would recommend making the Zoning layer visible and selecting it as one of the 10 layers to identify.

5/10/2016 Q: I am interested in testing your Beta 1.0 release, but I see nowhere I can enter the property address.
A: To search for an address you would use the "Search Layers" button to open the search functions dialog. The Search Layers button in the beta is roughly in the same place as in the existing version. The difference being the beta version has an image of binoculars on the button versus the existing that has the text "Quick Search". These types of changes are noted in the change log page behind the "What's New" link in the top banner of the Beta version. General help documentation is also available in the Help tab of both versions.

3/25/2016 C: The tool that returns the X/Y of a spot would be improved if it also returned the Z attribute. Some more map capabilities might be nice (Line of sight tool, elevation surface layer ground and treetop layers, map of all proposed projects up for approval or hearing). BONUS POINTS to link in neighboring county service layers for a set of attributes like parcels and so on. Try doing something like allow me to add WMS services.
Thank you for your comments. We will take them into consideration for future development. Limits to budget and on staffing have restricted much of what is possible for PWC in the realm of 3D GIS. As for proposed projects, there is the Pending Planning Cases data layer available in the application that may meet your needs. PWC does participate in most if not all regional GIS efforts but, with each jurisdiction having their own data schema, standards and business practices, plus the dynamic nature of the data, it would be very hard to realize a return on investment by including the neighboring Counties’ data accurately in our web application. Therefore we publish what we produce. Recognizing the need to visualize data beyond the boundaries of the County, we are looking into ways to allow users to incorporate their own data into the map view. That functionality, however, is not ready at this time.

3/23/2016 C: I use this site on a regular basis as a consultant to the appraisal industry. Blue parcel lines are a big improvement. Include them in a couple of more levels of zoom out.
R: It is always a struggle to find a balance with scale, draw speed, and cartographic clarity to make the parcel layer useful for everyone due to the variance of parcel density in the County. With testing we found that we could improve the drawing performance thus enabling more zoom levels. Parcels are now visible at 1:19,200 scale versus the 1:4,800 before.
Implemented
2/11/2016 Q: Is the BETA site connected to the live data?
A: The BETA site is using the same data sources as the existing site, so all information returned will be correct and up to date.
